Born in 1978 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Dave Tolley’s interest in Percussion began at an early age. While studying piano, Dave figured out that hitting stuff was much more fun. At 11, he created a makeshift kit from a set of bongos and a handful of cardboard boxes and never looked back. Dave has performed with several different acts in the Toronto area and continues to perform and play sessions. Read More
Currently Dave is performing with Xavier Rudd. He has performed throughout North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, UK, and Europe and appeared at huge festivals such -Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Alive Festival (Portugal), Nuke Festival (Austria), Blues and Roots (Australia), Austin City Limits (U.S.). Sorry I haven’t updated in a while. This summer the family packed up and moved to Quadra Island on BC’s beautiful west coast. It’s been an exciting move. Lots going on. Marie and I recently purchased a beautiful little cafe as well as setting up a drum studio in our house. Busy, Busy. The drum studio is exciting, I’ll be teaching lessons at home as well as over Skype. I’ll also be able to record drums, percussion as well as programming using Logic and Ableton. It should be a full drum facility in a few weeks. I’ll post pictures next week.
That’s it for now! More info to come.
I was watching this and it hit me how many different techniques there are out there. This is what works for me but I always encourage students to see what’s out there. There are so many great ideas out there.
Thanks to Shawn Jo at CJDC for hooking this up.
Any drummers in Fort St. John? Come hang out March 9 from 1-5.
There will be a drum tuning and head selection workshop. I’ll be discussing a variety of brushes, rods and sticks, as well as demoing a bunch of great Evans, Yamaha, Meinl. and Promark gear.
I found a great pic from Danny Michel’s Western Tour back in November. Thought I’d share. I had so much fun playing with these guys!
The drum studio is up and running. Let me know if you want to hook up for lessons!
Here’s a few pics…

It’s going to be such a great year! What’s up everyone, I’m working hard to keep up with my updates. I know I always say that but, I’m trying’ So…..
I’m getting ready to hit the Telus festival in Whistler in March and a Nine Mile tour in July. If you’re around BC and Alberta please check back as I’ll be updating my horribly out of date tour list. I’m also so stoked to playing with Danny Michel later on in the year. I’ll get those dates out soon.
That’s it for now, if you live in the Northern part of BC, I’ll be teaching and holding workshops in the Fort St. John area till June. Shoot me an email and we can get into it and learn.
So, It’s been awhile. Sorry about that. It’s been a super busy time. Lot’s of music flowing, new tours, and many other things to come. This has been a very exciting time. I’ve been living and teaching in Northern British Columbia. It’s been quite a change from my old Toronto lifestyle. While some might think this could change ones creativity it has actually expanded my own.
At the same time my family world has grown to include a beautiful child. Marie and I, on August 22, 2011 welcomed Cadence Rain into the world. She’s awesome!
Music and life continues on, lots of beautiful things around us and many things to do. Lots of changes coming in music world so stay tuned. Like I said earlier, more tours this spring, new music and a new studio for me.
